Interviews
Calico System - MetalCore aus St. Louis
Calico System haben vor kurzem Ihr Album „They Live“ veröffentlicht und standen uns nun Frage und Antwort. Lest, was sie uns zu sagen hatten.
Please introduce yourselves as a band to our readers.
We’re Calico System from St. Louis, MO. 5 rad dudes that are awesome and rule at things.
How satisfied are you with the production result of your new album „They Live“
Very satisfied now…. there were some things were weren’t 100% happy with when the record was initally finished but wee figured „hey we’re gonna be touring on this thing for the next year or more, this has to be perfect“ so we were and re-recorded some things and remixed and remastered. It cause the album to be pushed back a few months but it was well worth it.
In how far did your music develop since the last album in your opinion?
The old cd is a young band finding their sound. This new cd is a more mature band who knew exactly what they wanted when writing. The new stuff is more upbeat, heavy, and cuts to the chase.
What inspired you to write a song named after Adolf Hitlers wife „Eva Braun“?
Her name just SOUNDS like it needed to be a song title. The song is basically about being angry with your lover, much likie we can imagine Eva felt with Hitler and his actions.
Where do you get your ideas for your songs?
We go to the local zoo in our town and throw rocks at the animals. Then we watch how angry they get and use that inspiration to write songs.
What makes you stand out from the mainstream?
Lou Pearlman didn’t put us together like he did NSync. Unfortunately. Justin Timberlake rules.
Do you have regular jobs besides „Calico System“?
Yeah sometimes if we are home long enough. I bartend, Erik is an elementary school teacher, Mark works on a golf course, Shawn works with candles or some sissy job like that, and Nick works at the mall selling garbage.
You toured almost three complete years. How does it feel to be such a long time away from home?
I’ll answer this question after a short nap.
You’re featuring links to „peta2“ and the „Animal Protection and Rescue League“ on your webpage. In how far are you connected to these organisations?
I am Vegan and Mark is Vegetarian. We figure anytime we can spread the word then we really should. If you believe in something why not share what you know? Especially if you have some kids that are willing to hear what you have to say? I believe that these origizations are working for a noble cause that I believe in, therefore we like to send people their way and supoort them whenever possible.
Which bands and acts influenced your music most?
It’s different for everyone… Shawn loves NOFX, Erik loves Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nick loves alot of new school metalcore, I listen to Slayer and old cheeseball metal, and Mark listens to talk radio. I don’t know what’s up with Mark.
Are you heading to Europe in the near future?
Yes!!! Tour starts March 17th with The Hurt Process.
Which steps do you plan to take next?
Tour for about a year, then start work on the next reocrd. THAT will be the one where we take over the world. Mark my words. See you this March!!
